A mix of oils for leather lovers
All leathers, whether shoes, bags or car seats, should be nurtured on a regular basis to prevent them from loosing their suppleness and their sheen and becoming brittle.
Fiebing's Prime Neatsfoot Oil is a blend of neatsfoot oil and other useful natural and synthetic leather oils. Saddlers and shoemakers use this oil to preserve, soften and waterproof their products.
Hard leather becomes soft again
Neatsfoot Oil lubricates the leather and restores its suppleness.
Thanks to Prime Neatsfoot Oil Compound, even old leather that has become hard, (e.g. saddlebags and car seats) will become soft and flexible again.
Please note that the leather will darken slightly through treatment!
Do not use on suede and nubuck!
Can I mix leather dye and neatsfoot oil? Here's the pros' trick
For generations saddle makers have used a mix of neatsfoot oil and leather dye to both preserve the colour and the suppleness of the leather.
The trick is to mix 6% of Fiebing's Leather Dye (which can be mixed best) with 94% of Fiebing's Prime Neatsfoot Oil Compound. That works particularly well with all the brown tones and primary colours like green and blue.
After mixing, apply as usual. When your leather piece has dryed, you can buff it to remove the excess colour, but that should not be necessary due to the low dye concentration.
As a finish we recommend Fiebing's Acrylic Resolene.
