The professional size of the multi purpose dye

Jacquard Basic Dye dyes materials where all other dyes fail. It's the only dye that manages to dye polyacrylic.
The dyes are very bright and very easy to use.
Basic Dye allows you not only to dye fake furs, wigs and low-priced yarns - you can also dye wood, reed, straw, paper, leather and hemp - the possibilities are endless.
Making your own alcohol dyes (e.g. for leather and wood staining) with Basic Dye is also possible.

Basic Dye Jacquard - Acryl Textilfarbe

What about wool and silk?

Wool and silk can perfectly well be dyed with Jacquard Basic Dye. You will get a very intense dye result.
But the dye has to be fixed otherwise it would fade quickly through washing. Basic Dye does not have a good resistance to light and washing.

How hot should I dye?

With Basic Dye you can dye at any temperature - the hotter the dye bath, the more intensive the colour tones. Select a temperature between 30° and 85°C.
• (Poly-)Acrylic and all difficult to dye materials should be dyed on the stove top at 85°C. Here again: the hotter the dye bath, the more intensive the result.
• The longer you leave your piece in the dye bath the deeper the colour tone.

Instructions for textile dyeing

1. Weigh textiles
2. Per 100g of material take 1-3% of dye (a 200 g t-shirt needs 5g of dye)
3. Fill a bowl, pot or vat with enough hot/warm water so that the textile is completely covered in water and can swim freely.
4. Per liter of water, add 30ml of vinegar (white vinegar).
5. Pour the dye powder into the water and stir until completely dissolved.
6. Put textile into the dye bath and leave to soak until the desired colour depth is reached.
If you need a very intensive dye, let the dye bath simmer on the stove. The hotter the dye bath the more intensive the dye.
7. Rinse the dyed textile under cold running water.
8. Fix the dye with a fixative - e.g. DyproFix or iDye Natural Fixative
9. You can store the dye bath for further dyeing.

How do I dye wood or other firm materials (reed, paper etc.)?

1. Weigh object
2. Per 100g of material take 1-3% of dye (black and brown need 5% of dye = 5g for 100g of wood)
3. Fill a bowl, bucket or vat with enough hot water for the object to be covered
4. Per liter of water put 30ml of white vinegar (or 2ml of citric acid) into the water
5. Pour dye powder into the water and stir until completely dissolved
6. Put wood etc. into the dye bath and allow to act for 10-20 minutes while stiring until the desired colour depth is reached
7. Rinse the dyed textile under cold running water
8. You can store the dye bath for further dyeing

How can I create my own alcohol dyes?

To produce a paintable mixture that does not damage leather or wood you need:
• Put 7,5g of dye into 240ml of denatured alcohol (PURE 100% Alc.)
• Apply several coats until the desired colour tone is reached

Polyacrylic ≠ Polyester?

PolyAcrylic is neither polyester, polyamide, polyurethane nor any other plastic with ’poly’ in its name.

Unfortunately, this is often confused.
Basic Dye can penetratingly dye only PolyAcrylic. If you want to dye other fibres, please take a look at our blog post and find the right dye for the corresponding fibre.

What should I keep in mind?

With Basic Dye you should only dye in a pot, bucket or bowl. We strongly advise against dyeing in the washing machine, as all the plastic parts would be dyed too.
As already mentioned, this dye dyes EVERYTHING - even your tabletop and the floor. Please protect your work area from paint splashes and dye powder.

Recommendation:

We recommend Synthrapol by Jacquard before, during and after dyeing:
• Pre-wash to remove impregnations or finishes.
• During dyeing, a drop of Synthrapol in the dye liquor takes away the surface tension and allows the dyes to penetrate better.
• After dyeing, Synthrapol removes all free pigments and prevents subsequent discolourations.
• When hand dyeing, protect yourself with rubber gloves
