Liquid Kicks - TopCoat Finishes Instructions

This is how you use Liquid Kicks - Top Coat Finishes

LK Top Coats are top finishes made from high performance hybrid acrylic polyurethane water based resins designed for use on leather and canvas. All LK products are manufactured by Liquid Kicks themselves under very strict quality control in Harrah (Oklahoma).

Preparation:

Before application of the top finish, the colours should be completely dry.
You can dry the surface with a hair dryer or a heat gun at a maximum temperature of 170º C .
Allow the surface to cool before applying the top coat.

Application of the top coat:

LK Top Coats can be applied in two coats with a little sponge or a soft brush.
Dry the top finish carefully with a hair dryer so that the little bubbles burst and disappear.
Apply only a very thin layer at a time.

Professionals with an airbrush can apply the top coat with a nozzle size between 0,2 mm and 0,7 mm and an air pressure between 25 psi and 35 psi. Spray LK Top-Coat with the airbrush from a distance of 10 to 15 cm or with a spray gun from a distance of 10 to 20cm directly on the surface. Apply the top coat in even layers, working from left to right and from top to bottom, overlapping each previous spray line to create medium wet layers. Be sure to let the top coat dry before starting the next coat.

Drying:
Air drying takes 35 to 50 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and humidity.
Top coats can also very well be dried with a hair dryer or a heat gun at a maximum temperature of 170º C. Drying with a hair dryer should not exceed 10 minutes.
LK Top Coats are immediately usable after complete drying, however, full resilience (chemical and scratch resistance) is only achieved after 12 hours of curing at room temperature (21°C).

Working time:

LIke any water based paint,  LK Top Coats should be used quickly.
As soon as the product has been poured into an open container such as an airbrush cup or mixing cup, curing begins. A test showed that the product was usable for 2 hours at 21°C in a 3.7ml (1/8 fl. oz.) airbrush cup before performance was affected.
In a similar test in a 470ml (16 fl.oz) cup the product was usable for 6 hours.
To extend the shelf life of the top coat in the cup, store unused portions sealed with a lid.
The shelf life of unopened bottles of LK Top Coat is longer than 1 year under normal conditions.

Coverage:

A 59ml (2 oz.) bottle coats more than 15 pairs of shoes or one big leather car seat.
The coverage on canvas varies depending on the type and size of canvas.

Storage:

Store the product at temperatures between 10 and 25º C and keep away from direct sunlight to prevent oxidation. Long-term exposure to temperatures over 50° C and under 0° C may result in loss of product performance.
Keep the lid on the bottles tighly closed to prevent drying out.

Cleaning of tools:
Clean all used tools immediately with water or acetone. Cleaning of dried top coats requires harsh solvents such as MEK thinners or volatile paint strippers.
Clean your airbrush or spray gun immediately after use from all traces of finish to prevent the product from drying inside the gun and causing a blockage that is difficult to remove! Rinse until the cleaner is no longer discoloured by the finish (whitish colour).
