DEKA L in the 500 g professional tin
For workshops that dye a lot, there is DEKA L in the large tin. You dye exactly as with the 10 g sachets, but simply weigh out the dye.
Lightfast, vivid, in 33 colours and above all correctable: exactly what costume departments need that patinate after dyeing or overdye later.

The 33 colours
Colours never look entirely true on screen. The DEKA colour charts show every shade as a dyed fabric swatch.
Why professionals love DEKA L
Without after-treatment DEKA L is lightfast, but not boil-fast. What sounds like a disadvantage is worth its weight in gold in theatre and film: costumes are often patinated after dyeing, and for that the colour has to be removable in places. Overdyeing is also easier. An unfixed colour is much easier to remove than a fixed one.
If you need more washfastness, place the fabric in DEKA 111L after-treatment agent after dyeing. Then it can be washed by hand at 30 °C.
Which fabrics can be dyed?
Cotton, linen, batiste, calico, viscose and other natural fibres as well as silk and wool. Dye wool and silk by hand and use 125 ml vinegar essence instead of salt. Blended fabrics dye up to a polyester content of about 50 %, pure synthetics do not take the dye. Finishes and fabric softener must be removed beforehand, for example with DEKA Textil-Fit.
How much dye do I need?
In a pot, 10 g dye colours 125 to 250 g fabric, depending on how strong the shade should be. For the washing machine (capacity 4 to 5 kg) the following applies per 1 kg fabric:

In a pot you additionally need 150 g salt, for example PATIN-A Special Dye Salt or iodine-free table salt.

DEKA L: Instructions
Dyeing in a pot
For 10 g dye and 125 to 250 g fabric.
1. Pre-wash the fabric so that finishes and fabric softener are removed.
2. Dissolve the dye in hot water and add it with 150 g salt to enough water for the fabric to float freely. For wool and silk use 125 ml vinegar essence instead of salt.
3. Place the wet fabric in it and dye at at least 60 °C for about 60 minutes. Keep moving the fabric from time to time.
4. Black and dark blue take longer: at least 3 hours or overnight in the dye bath.
5. Rinse with cold water until it stays clear.
Dyeing in the washing machine
1. Read dye and salt from the table in the description.
2. Add the salt to the fabric and place everything loosely in the drum.
3. Dissolve the dye in 2 litres of hot water.
4. Set the main wash without prewash, 60 to 95 °C depending on the fabric.
5. As soon as the programme is running, pour the dye solution through the detergent drawer and rinse with 1 litre of warm water.
6. The main wash should last at least 40 minutes.
7. After the programme has finished, leave the fabric in the machine and rinse it thoroughly with a cold wash cycle.
Batik
Wax batik: Stretch the dry fabric on a frame and cover the areas that are to stay light with hot batik wax. The wax must penetrate to the back. Then dye at 40 to 50 °C for 15 to 30 minutes so that the wax does not melt. After that rinse cold, dry and cover further areas for the next colour. Always dye from light to dark. Finally iron the wax out between newspaper or blotting paper.
Tie batik: Tie the fabric with raffia or rubber bands. Here the dye bath may be up to 90 °C hot depending on the fabric.
Deep black: A concentrated bath and a long dyeing time of about one hour at 50 °C give the best result.
After-treatment and care
For more washfastness place the rinsed fabric in DEKA 111L after-treatment agent for 30 minutes and hang it up to dry without rinsing. After that it can be washed by hand at 30 °C with mild detergent. Always wash items dyed with DEKA L separately.
Peg the items close to the edge on the line and judge the colour only when it is dry.
Wear rubber gloves and do not breathe in the powder. In rare cases direct skin contact with the concentrated dye can cause allergic reactions.

DEKA L: Frequently asked questions
Why is there no fixative in the pack?
That is intentional. This way the colour can later be partly removed again, for example to patinate costumes. If you want more washfastness, use DEKA 111L.
How do I wash fabrics dyed with DEKA L?
Always separately, by hand with mild detergent. After treatment with 111L, hand washing at 30 °C is possible.
Can I dye wool and silk?
Yes, by hand and with 125 ml vinegar essence instead of salt.
What is the difference to DEKA Wash&Go?
DEKA Wash&Go brings its own reactive agent and is machine washable. DEKA L, on the other hand, is correctable, also dyes wool and silk and is the better choice for batik.
Can the colours be mixed?
Yes, all 33 colours can be mixed with each other.
Why is my dyeing blotchy?
Usually there are finishes or fabric softener in the fabric, or the fabric could not float freely in the dye bath.

DEKA L dye - Very satisfied.
Very satisfied with the DEKA L pro dye. I use it in Textile Art and highly recommend it. The colors are intense, vibrant, richly pigmented. Mixing the pigments to achieve new shades is captivating.
The container may seem a little light, but it is sufficient. Certain boxes arrived "dented" but it was enough to open them so that everything is put back in place. The proposed plastic cover that can be used after opening the dye box is a good idea. Very good product.
Online contacts with PATIN-A staff are very pleasant, cordial and efficient.
