DEKA Wash&Go: Dyeing in the washing machine, as easy as doing the laundry

A faded T-shirt, a stack of towels, a whole bolt of fabric for the next costume: with DEKA Wash&Go your washing machine becomes a dye house.
Every pack contains everything the dye needs, the dye powder and the matching reactive agent. All you add is salt.
The machine keeps the fabric moving evenly, and the result is a rich, lightfast and washfast colour without streaks.
20 colours are available, and the black is regarded by professionals as one of the deepest you can get for dyeing.

Colourful T-shirts on a washing line, dyed with DEKA Wash&Go

At a glance

• Reactive dye for the washing machine, 20 colours that can be mixed with each other
• One pack: 25 g dye and 50 g reactive agent
• Enough for up to 500 g fabric (dry weight) in a full shade
• Dyeing temperature 40 to 60 °C, black always at 60 °C
• Lightfast and washfast after dyeing
• For cotton, linen, viscose and other plant fibres

The 20 colours

Colour chart DEKA Wash&Go washing machine dye with 20 colours

Colours never look entirely true on screen. The DEKA colour charts show every shade as a dyed fabric swatch. The RAL colour chart also helps with orientation.

Which fabrics can be dyed?

DEKA Wash&Go dyes plant fibres such as cotton, linen, flax, viscose, jute, ramie and bamboo. Blended fabrics work well if they contain at least 50 % cotton or linen. The higher the synthetic content, the lighter and less even the result.
Pure synthetic fibres do not take the dye. Wool and silk do not belong in the washing machine, because wool felts. For these fibres we recommend Jacquard Acid Dye.

How much dye do I need?

• Full shade: 1 pack for up to 500 g fabric
• Pastel shade: 1 pack for up to 1 kg fabric
• For 1 kg fabric in a full shade take 2 packs
• Plus 250 g salt per machine load, for example PATIN-A Special Dye Salt or iodine-free table salt
No more than 1 kg of fabric should go into a standard washing machine with a capacity of 4.5 to 5 kg, so that it can move freely in the water.

Important before dyeing

New fabrics are full of finishes, and fabric softener also forms a film on the fibre. Both repel the dye and lead to stains. So wash the fabric beforehand as hot as possible or treat it with DEKA Textil-Fit. Stains and worn areas cannot be dyed away, they remain visible after dyeing.

Tip for costumes and laundry

Only fabrics with the same fibre and the same weave turn out exactly alike. With a set of bed linen, pillowcases, sheets and duvet cover can therefore come out in different depths. Since colours never look quite true on screen, the DEKA colour charts with real fabric swatches help with the choice.

Goes well with

• PATIN-A Special Dye Salt for an even dyeing result
• DEKA Textil-Fit for removing finishes
• DEKA colour charts with dyed fabric swatches
• DEKA L if the colour should be removable later

The detailed dyeing instructions are in the "Dye instructions" tab, answers to frequent questions in the "FAQ" tab. More about dyeing is in our blog: FAQs about dyeing with textile dyes.

DEKA Wash&Go: Dyeing instructions

The quantities apply to 1 pack and up to 500 g fabric (dry weight) in a standard washing machine with a capacity of 4.5 to 5 kg.

You need

• 1 pack of DEKA Wash&Go per 500 g fabric
• 250 g salt per machine load
• Rubber gloves, measuring jug, two containers and a stirring spoon
• Kitchen scales for weighing the fabric

1. Preparation

1. Pre-wash the fabric so that finishes, fabric softener and dirt are removed.
2. Weigh the dry fabric.
3. Dissolve the dye thoroughly in about 1 litre of hot water (about 60 °C).
4. Dissolve the reactive agent in a second container in about 1 litre of hot water.
5. Dissolve the salt in warm water.

2. Dyeing

1. Place the wet fabric loosely in the drum.
2. Select the main wash without prewash and without eco programme, at 40 or 60 °C. For black always 60 °C.
3. As soon as the water has run in and the drum is turning, pour first the salt solution and then the dye solution through the detergent drawer.
4. After 5 minutes slowly pour in the reactive agent solution and rinse with 1 litre of warm water.
5. The main wash should last at least 40 minutes. If the programme is shorter, start the main wash again before the first rinse cycle if your machine allows it.
6. Let the programme run to the end. A low spin speed is possible.

3. Rinsing out

Leave the fabric in the machine and wash it again straight away with a mild detergent suited to the fabric. This removes the excess dye and leaves the machine clean.

4. Drying and care

• Peg the items close to the edge on the line. Where fabric hangs over the line, dye collects and dark streaks appear.
• Do not dry in strong sun or near a radiator.
• Judge the colour only when it is dry. Wet, every dyeing looks darker.
• Wash the dyed items separately the first two times, after that they can go in with the other laundry.

Weights for guidance

Duvet cover approx. 800 g, sheet approx. 650 g, jeans approx. 700 g, cotton jacket approx. 370 g, terry towel approx. 200 g, T-shirt approx. 80 g, napkin approx. 50 g

Wear rubber gloves while working and avoid skin contact with the powder and the dissolved dye.

Good luck!

DEKA Wash&Go: Frequently asked questions

Why does one pack only last for 500 g of fabric?

The earlier DEKA washing machine dye was twice as big and made for 1 kg of fabric. DEKA Wash&Go is the new, smaller pack for 500 g. For 1 kg of fabric in a full shade simply take 2 packs.

Will my washing machine dye afterwards?

No. The rubber seal can discolour slightly, but that is only a cosmetic flaw and does not rub off on the next load. The second wash with mild detergent cleans the machine.

Can I dye wool or silk?

Not in the washing machine, wool would felt. For wool and silk it is better to use Jacquard Acid Dye.

My fabric has turned out blotchy. Why?

Almost always because of finishes or fabric softener in the fabric. Pre-wash new fabrics hot before dyeing or use DEKA Textil-Fit.

Can I overdye coloured fabrics?

Yes, but mixed colours result, and you can only ever dye from light to dark. A yellow shirt dyed with blue therefore turns green.

Can I mix colours?

Yes, all 20 colours can be mixed with each other. In that case take the matching reactive agent for each colour as well.

At what temperature can I wash dyed items?

The first two washes separately, after that normally with mild detergent, according to the care label of the fabric.

Review with rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Hervorragende Produkte
