Professional decorating with the swivel knife
This adjustable swivel knife is an excellent embossing knife which can be used both for outlining and cutting a design into the leather. No wonder it is the most frequently used tool for carvings and decorations in leather like e.g. floral and foliage motives.
Like the name says, it allows not only to cut straight lines into the leather, but also curved ones. The swivel knife is also perfect for carving round motives.
Precise decorative cuts thanks to a sharp blade
Keep the blade of your swivel knife always sharp and shiny. A sharp blade allows to work with little pressure and prevents cramping and tiring of the hand.
Sharpen the swivel knife stropping it from both sides on a piece of leather on which you have applied Jewellers Rouge until it is sharp and shiny again.
The perfect technique
Holding the swivel knife the right way is very important for precise and neat work. Put the forefinger on the upper part while the other fingers hold the knife like a pen. The forefinger should not lay completely on the upper part as otherwise the knife would be held too convulsively and your work would suffer from lack of control and precision.
For straight lines, simply pull the swivel knife down the leather piece. The movable bracket allows wonderful carving of arcs, curves, circles or S-shaped ornaments into the leather.
Make sure to humidify the leather before starting to work, and allow to dry, like for all other leather works.
