KIP Ultra Sharp - Masking Adhesive Tape
The perfectly painted colour edge
We have found a better and ecological replacement for FrogTape for achieving sharp edges on smooth leather or for keeping heels/soles/linings paint free:
KIP ULTRA SHARP is coated at the edges with a powdery polymer.
It forms a gel when in contact with water based paint. The gel seals the cavities and prevents paint from running underneath.
What is special about KIP ULTRA SHARP is that, contrary to FrogTape, no plastic box is needed to extend durability.
With a length of 50 meter, KIP ULTRA SHARP has approx. 20% more tape on the reel than FrogTape - it's also 25% wider.
Dye shoes like a professional
Almost all dyers want to keep the original colour on the sole or the heel (of high heeled shoes, boots or loafers).
Either dye very carefully or use KIP ULTRA SHARP for masking.
Tape off the areas not to be dyed and press the red tape very firmly onto the surface. Avoid stretching the tape (this causes the tape to lose its geling properties and the dye may run under the tape).
KIP ULTRA SHARP is the professional way to protect the heel or the sole edge from the new colour.
This is how the tape protects your leather
The rubber adhesive of KIP ULTRA SHARP contains a polymer (super absorber) which swells in combination with water and does not allow acrylic dye to run under the tape.
The swollen adhesive forms a micro barrier at the edges of the tape and prevents dye from running underneath.
The result: sharp colour edges, no running underneath of dye .
Only for acrylic dyes? What shall I do with alcohol dyes?
Please note that the adhesive tape only works with the water proportion of acrylic dyes (opaque dye). Penetrating dyes (e.g. Fiebings Pro Dye or Leather Dye) will still run in the leather in spite of KIP ULTRA SHARP.
Alcohol based dye penetrates the leather not only downwards but also laterally. You have to imagine leather like a blotting paper on which you paint a line with watercolour. This line will not have a sharp edge but run out to the side.
But you can paint a slightly sharper edge with KIP ULTRA SHARP: if you use alcohol based dyes, stick adhesive tape on the surfaces and spray the leather gently with water (with a spray bottle). Wipe the excess water carefully off with a dry, soft cloth and start dyeing immediately.
Peel the tape off right after dyeing.

Super Maskiertape
Eine echte Verbesserung zum Standardkreppband. Mit dem Tape wird die Farbe ausgezeichnet abgehalten unter das Band zu laufen. Meine bisherigen Arbeiten waren sehr viel schneller erledigt, da ich weniger Nacharbeiten hatte. 10 Sterne dafür :-)

Sehr gut!
Der Preis hat mich zuerst abgeschreckt! Ein Klebeband für 10 Euro??? Habs mir dann trotzdem gekauft und bin positiv überrascht. Es ist tatsächlich keine Farbe unter das Band gelaufen und meine Sohlenränder sehen genau so aus wie vor dem Färbern. Dafür gibts alle Punkte

Ich habe schon oft Schuhe gefärbt und mich darüber geärgert, dass Farbe, trotz aller Vorsicht, den Absatz verfärbt hat. Mit diesem tollen Tape ist das jetzt Vergangenheit. Ich bekomme ganz klare Linien und Ränder und meine Schuhe sehen perfekt aus.
