DEKA aktuell: boil-fast colours with special shades

Some shades can only be found here: Jade, Brandy, Hibiscus, Cyclamen. DEKA aktuell has accompanied generations of dyers and is known for its special shades and its staying power.
The dyeings are lightfast and washfast and even boil-fast. You dye in a pot, in a bowl or in the washing machine, from as low as 30 °C.
Important to know: DEKA has discontinued production of DEKA aktuell. We are selling off the last stock while supplies last.

The colours

Colours never look entirely true on screen. The DEKA colour charts show every shade as a dyed fabric swatch.

Which fabrics can be dyed?

DEKA aktuell dyes cotton, linen, ramie, bamboo, viscose and other plant fibres as well as silk. Blended fabrics dye more weakly the higher the synthetic content is. Pure synthetic fibres do not take the dye. Wool can be dyed, but it looks much better with Jacquard Acid Dye.

It does not work without the reactive agent

DEKA aktuell is a reactive dye. Only the Reactive Agent aktuell triggers the dyeing reaction and bonds the colour permanently with the fibre. The reactive agent is not included in the pack. For 10 g dye you need 20 g reactive agent, for silk only 10 g.

How much dye do I need?

In a pot, one sachet is enough for 150 g fabric in a full shade up to 250 g fabric in a light shade. For the washing machine use this table:

1 bag corresponds to 10 g dye or 20 g reactive agent. The quantities apply to washing machines with a capacity of 4 to 5 kg.

Tie-dye and batik

Dissolve the dye in 500 ml water and fill it into a spray bottle. This way you apply it directly to the tied fabric, much cheaper than ready-made liquid dye. You will find detailed instructions in our blog: Tie-dye batik: dyeing rainbow spirals.

DEKA aktuell: Dyeing instructions

Dyeing in a pot or bowl

For 1 sachet (10 g), 20 g reactive agent and 150 to 250 g fabric. Dyeing temperature 30 to 60 °C depending on the fabric, dyeing time 30 to 60 minutes.

1. The fabric must be free of finishes, fabric softener and stains. Remove finishes with DEKA Textil-Fit.
2. Dissolve the dye thoroughly in ½ litre of hot water.
3. Fill a large plastic container with 3 litres of hot water, dissolve 150 g salt in it and add the dye solution.
4. Wet the fabric, wring it out and place it in the dye bath. Stir well and wear rubber gloves.
5. Dissolve 20 g reactive agent completely in ½ litre of hot water.
6. After 5 minutes of dyeing time, slowly stir the reactive agent solution into the dye bath.
7. Keep the fabric moving throughout the dyeing time. It should float freely and always be covered.
8. Rinse the fabric until the water stays clear, then wash it with mild detergent at 30 °C.

Silk: Use only 10 g reactive agent with the same amount of water and 125 ml vinegar essence instead of salt.
Black and dark blue: For an especially deep dyeing the fabric may stay in the dye bath for up to 3 hours or overnight.

Dyeing in the washing machine

1. Read the quantities of dye, reactive agent and salt from the table in the description.
2. Add the salt to the fabric and place everything loosely in the drum.
3. Dissolve the dye in 2 litres of hot water.
4. Set a 60 °C main wash without prewash.
5. As soon as the water has run in and the programme is running, pour the dye solution through the detergent drawer.
6. Dissolve the reactive agent in 2 litres of hot water and pour it in slowly after 5 minutes. Rinse with 1 litre of warm water.
7. The main wash must last at least 40 minutes.
8. After the programme has finished, leave the fabric in the machine and wash it again straight away with mild detergent. This also cleans the machine.
A machine with a capacity of 4.5 kg should hold no more than 1 kg of fabric.

Drying and care

Peg the items close to the edge on the line, otherwise dark streaks appear. Judge the colour only when it is dry. The first two washes separately, after that the items can go in with the other 60 °C or 95 °C laundry.

Avoid skin contact with the concentrated dye and do not breathe in the powder. In rare cases it can cause allergic reactions.

DEKA aktuell: Frequently asked questions

Is DEKA aktuell still being made?

No, DEKA has discontinued production. We are selling off the remaining stock. What is sold out will not come back.

Do I really need the reactive agent?

Yes. Without the Reactive Agent aktuell the colour does not bond and washes out again.

What is the difference to DEKA L?

DEKA aktuell is bonded permanently with the fibre by the reactive agent and is boil-fast. DEKA L is easier to use and can be partly removed again later, but is less washfast.

Can I dye silk?

Yes, with half the amount of reactive agent and vinegar essence instead of salt. The instructions are in the "Dye instructions" tab.

Why is my dyeing blotchy?

Usually there are finishes or fabric softener in the fabric. Pre-wash new fabrics hot or use DEKA Textil-Fit.

Can I mix the colours?

Yes, all colours can be mixed with each other.

Verfärbte Hose (Hell rosa in einem hellen rot gefärbt)

Ich habe meine verfärbte Hose ca. 250 g und eine weiße Windel im Leinen/Baumwollgemisch bei 60 Grad mit der Patin-a Farbe DEKA-Textilfarbe Farbkonzentrat eingefärbt. Dazu das Färbesalz und Reaktionsmittel für DEKA aktuell dazu gekauft. Die Einfärbung ist gleichmäßig schön geworden. Die Farbe ist heller, nicht pink, sondern Richtung Flamingo, ich hätte doch 3 Packungen, a. 20 g. nehmen sollen. Die Farbe sieht trotzdem gut aus. Der Prozess verlief gut. Nach dem ersten Waschdurchgang gleich nochmals einen Durchlauf mit der gleichen Zeit im Vollwaschprogramm. Die Waschmaschine sieht wieder sauber aus. Beim dritten Waschdurchgang habe ich einmal ähnlich Farbiges Zeug gewaschen, danach hellere Sachen, dabei auch einen Waschlappen in weiß, weil ich testen wollte, ob der rosa wird. Alles gut, nichts verfärbt. Das Gummi in der Waschmaschine habe ich nach jedem Waschgang ausgewaschen. Alles gut gelaufen. Fazit: Ich werde sicherlich nochmals zu gegebener Zeit etwas einfärben. Weil sonst hätte ich die Hose nicht mehr angezogen. Jetzt hat sie eine zweite Chance. Das ist für mich Nachhaltigkeit. Vielen Dank für die gute Beratung. Herzliche Grüße Monika Wolking

Ich habe für ein Stoff-Projekt DEKA-Aktuell bestellt. Dabei kamen ein paar Fragen auf, die weiter gingen als die eh schon sehr umfangreichen Informationen, die zu dem Produkt auf der Seite gesammelt wurden. Wie man es sich wünscht

Ich habe tie-dye-farben gekauft. Cool fand ich, dass es dazu ein Video gab! Und ein laaanges FAQ zu tie-dye farben.
Versand ging schnell und die Farben kommen aus Deutschland - im Gegensatz zu anderen Farben, die meist aus China kommen.

Soviel Spaß für so wenig Geld

Letztes Wochenende fünf Kinder mit denen meiner Schwester. Gott sei Dank hatte ich vorgesorgt. Alles was zum tie dye nötig war stand bereit und wir hatten soviel Spaß. Heute sind die letzten T-Shirts fertig geworden. Eine Farborgie. Die Kinder sind begeistert und wollen nach Corona mit ihren Freunden weiter batiken.

Happy

Wir hatten schon länger vor, einmal Tie-Dye auszuprobieren.
Das Highlight der Geburtstagsparty meines Sohns (10 Jahre) wurde das Färben von T-Shirts. Wir konnten damit alle Kinder glücklich machen - jeder durfte was tolles, selbstgemachtes mit nach Hause nehmen. Und ich habe mit den Farbresten etliche Tücher und Bettwäsche gefärbt.
Die Flaschen sollten nicht größer als 500ml sein, sonst haben Kinder Schwierigkeiten sie zu halten.
Planen sie unbedingt für den nächsten Kindergeburtstag Tie-Dye ein - es wird unvergesslich ?

Magnifiques t-shirts

En furetant sur internet je suis tombée sur ce site - trilingue - et me suis lancée dans le tie dye avec mes enfants. J'ai suivi pas à pas toutes les recommandations du blog et nous avons réalisé de magnifiques t-shirts pour cet été. Les enfants étaient ravis. Je voulais remercier chaleureusement Patina pour le plaisir que nous avons eu.

Tie-Dye - Was für ein Spass

Was kann man gegen die Langweile beim Hausarrest während der Coronakrise tun?
Ich habe mit meinen Kindern Tie-Dye ausprobiert und wir hatten einen ganzen Nachmittag viel Spass und am nächsten Tag auch noch - beim auswaschen und begutachten der gefärbten Stücke.
Wir haben T-Shirts, Handtücher, Kopfkissen und Laken gefärbt und sind super begeistert von dem Ergebnis.
Ich kann jedem empfehlen, dies für Geburtstagspartys oder einfach so einzuplanen.
Meine Kinder im Alter von 6 bis 14 Jahren waren wirklich begeistert und haben ohne murren mitgemacht.
Wir werden das garantiert nochmal wiederholen!
