Stamping, screen printing or painting with bleach
Jacquard Bleach Thickener is an additive to thicken bleach (e.g. Eau de Javel).
Thanks to this thickener, you can screen print, paint or stamp with bleach and produce exciting patterns.
Jacquard Bleach Thickener is a great product to spread bleach specifically on clothing.
How do I use Jacquard Bleach Thickener?
The bleach thickener is used together with bleach to create a thickened paste.
It is applied to the fabric to remove the existing colour - either painted or printed.
The thickener remains stable in the bleach for 24 to 36 hours.
Jacquard Bleach Thickener can be used on cellulosic fibres like cotton, linen and viscose. It is not recommended for protein fibres such as wool and silk.
Mixing proportions of Jacquard Bleach Thickener
Painting:
12 gramm or 1 US tbsp of thickener
25 ml or between 1/16 and 1/8 US cup of bleach
Printing:
25 gramm or approx. 1 US tbsp + 2 US tsp of thickener
37 ml or approx. 1/8 US cup of bleach
You can adjust the thickener amounts to the desired consistency. The bleach can be added up to zu 50%.
Always add Jacquard Bleach Thickener to the bleach, not the other way round. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
A small whisk works very well for mixing (careful with splashings!).
You can also add water to thin the consistency or slow down the reaction.
Use of Jacquard Bleach Thickener
It is best to paint or print this mixture on fabric that has been previously dyed.
Leave to dry.
The longer the mixture is left on the fabric and the thicker the bleach paste is applied, the more colour will be removed.
However, do not leave the mixture on for several hours as the bleach may destroy the fabric (bleach attacks the fibres!).
After drying or when the desired decolourisation is reached, rinse the fabric and deactivate the bleach with 'Bleach Stop' (Sodium thiosulphate) or another agent.
Then wash with a mild detergent to remove the thickener.
Which dyes can I bleach with Jacquard Bleach Thickener ?
If you use the bleach thickener on fabrics you have dyed yourself, you will get different results depending on the type of dye and the colour chosen for the background.
Some industrially dyed fabrics are difficult to decolourise even with bleach.
Bleach works very well with hot dyes, such as Dypro, DEKA L or iDye Natural.
With reactive dyes such as Procion MX or DEKA aktuell, the dye is usually not completely removed.
Many dyes do not become a white but a lighter version of the same colour and sometimes the result is a completely different colour.
Some colours and dye types do not decolourise at all or very little. Results may vary.
The decolourisation technique is very popular with tie-dyers who want to achieve special designs.
Experiment a little - it's definitely a lot of fun!
